BEHIND THE LENS:

Interview by: Kathryn Wirsing

Thorsten Roth, the photographer that just shot Renegades for WhatsWear was able to answer some of my questions about the shoot for our readers. This sleek and sophisticated shoot features five hot male models. I'm not sure what you'll want more, the outfits, or who's they're on. Read on to find out what went into the shoot:

KW: So a renegade is someone who's a rebel, name one time in your life when you've been that.

TR: Haha Kathryn, you asked for it, putting my inner narcissist right on the spot. All I have to say is "Never look back" but I promise you that I will do my very, very best to make renegade my
middle name during this interview with you.

KW: What's it like shooting a single model as opposed to a group of models?

TR: Well, shooting a single model is a bit more intimate. Besides the team that you are working with it's obviously a one on one. With a group of models you have different dynamics going on, it is much more complex. Probably you can compare it a bit with riding a single horse or a snow-sledge with a bunch of huskies that need to be directed in order to move forward. Haha. As a photographer I always lead but in a group-shoot I become even more the "leader of the pack". Then there are the differences in the groups: Are we dealing with an all-male, all-female or mixed cast. Different constellations equal different chemistries equal different psychology. Depending how good the talent is a group shoot demands much more multitasking and directing. I have to control

permanently that every model is playing his/her part. If the talent is great I can give them the freedom to improvise and I can just go with the flow. Leadership, vision and execution are the keys. Particularly in a group session a shooter has to own the scene, if he does not own his scene - the scene falls apart on him, it is that simple!
